By Jeff McLaneThe Eagles are expected to lose Papak’s role as a mentor on defense as they try to rebuild the defense around Fletcher Cox and his newly acquired Jordan Hicks.
The Eagles are also expected to replace Pape, who had a significant role in building the defense in Philadelphia, with a veteran coach who had played with the team for two seasons.
But the Eagles don’t have an opening to replace him, and it’s unclear when that will happen.
Eagles coach Doug Pederson said he hopes to get Pape back in sometime in the second half of the season.
“I think that is one of the reasons why we are trying to move forward with the coaching staff that we have and hopefully get Pampas back with us,” Pederson told reporters on Thursday.
“That’s our goal, and that’s what I’ve been saying since we’ve been here, and I’m not going to give it up.
“We’re in a pretty good position with Jordan Hicks, and then we have a good group of guys that have done a great job with him. “
So I think it’s really about what you can do with the guys and the scheme that we are playing and what we have. “
We’re in a pretty good position with Jordan Hicks, and then we have a good group of guys that have done a great job with him.
“He’s done a lot for us. “
And he deserves a big credit. “
He’s done a lot for us.
And he deserves a big credit.
He deserves the credit for what he’s done.”
Pape, whose son, Darryl, is an Eagle, also is expected to play a major role in coaching the defense.
In addition to playing a big role on defense, Pape helped lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl appearance in 2005, and his success on offense has helped propel the team to three consecutive playoff berths.
It’s unclear if Pape will be able to be a coach on the Eagles’ coaching staff.
The team will also likely replace him with a young assistant who has worked with him in the past.
If Pederson were to replace the coach who coached Pape in Philadelphia and the new coach replaces the coach that coached Pampaks Eagles, Pederson would have to find a way to fill the defensive coordinator’s role on the team.
“I think Pape’s an important part of this,” Pedersen said.
But I’d love to have Pape here, but I think that’s one of those things where I have to make sure that I do the best I can for this group and the coaches. “
As far as coaching the guys, I think I’ll be doing that.
So if we can get somebody who can get us that opportunity, then we will do the right thing and get back to work.”
